Last Thursday, March 24, Valley Oaks Charter School, which covers Bakersfield and Frazier Park, hosted "Showcase of the Arts - A Grand Night" at the Metro Gallery in downtown Bakersfield.  Pencil and pen drawings, paintings, pastels, photography, digital art and exquisite woodworks were featured as well as musical and dance performances.

Students had to audition to be featured.  Locals Jaslynne Forrester and Rachel Oliver had their painted works on display and 11 year old Macalah Bierman performed her original piano composition titled "Blizzard".

Several students were said to participate in the Bakersfield Youth Orchestra including pianist Marilla Jeffers, violinist Shulammite Lin and violinist Samuel Lang.  All performed beautifully.  Felix Martin treated those in attendance with a brilliant cello performance of French Suite V by J.S. Bach.
