County Service Area 100 Voted Down

by Lloyd Wiens

The property owner vote on the CSA that was intended to finance lighting and landscape maintenance for the Frazier Park Streetscape Project via assessments on adjacent parcels has failed.

From Ray Watson's office:  "There were two ballots- one for the lights and the other for landscaping and maintenance.  The lights failed by a vote of 7 to 19 and the second failed by 9 to 14..........

We are looking at different options and hope that the community or the businesses will help out in what will be the long term solution."

In spite of the above, the board of supervisors granted a request from Kern County Roads to award a maintenance contract to Antioch Nursery from Roads Dept. funds for the landscaping in the project area at just under $15,000.

Local discussions are continuing regarding how to restructure a County Service Area  or Community Services District to spread the cost of this and to offer additional community services.
