The El Camino Pines Lutheran Church met this morning to decide whether to leave their synod, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), over homosexual avocation and liberal theology. Only one in the congregation voted to stay with the ELCA and one reportedly abstained from voting; making the decision to leave almost unanimous.
The ELCA recently decided to allow / support openly homosexual clergy members. El Camino Pines is one of many American Lutheran congregations choosing to break with the increasingly liberal, non-Biblical stance of their respective synods.
They now enter a 90 day period where the ELCA will lobby / attempt to convince church members to reverse their decision. Those that spoke with The Mountain Daily News were confident that the church's near unanimous decision will remain firm.
Coming installments will attempt to accurately shed light on the issue at hand.
Correction:
Frank Haider of the El Camino Pines Lutheran Church called me to say that NO ONE voted to stay with the ELCA and only one member abstained from voting as reported previously.
My apologies. The error was reported as told to this reporter by another church member. The mistake was unintentional.
