MAC Update

by Lloyd Wiens

Supervisor Ray Watson and his staff are meeting on August 13 at his office with a few of the people that have applied for a position on the Mountain Communities Municipal Advisory Council (McMAC) board of directors, to discuss the proposal and their applications for serving on the board.

No decision has been made as to whether to approve this new public agency advisory body or not.  This meeting is a part of that decision-making process.

As I recall, when Mr. Watson held a well-attended, well-publicized community meeting in February to discuss the MAC, he stated that he would have an answer for us by the end of March. Now, over four months later, it appears there is an invitation-only meeting with "some" of the people who applied to be on the MAC board. Does that include the people who worked so hard for so long putting together the MAC proposal? This is why I did not apply to be on the MAC board. Even had I been invited, which I doubt, I do not believe I could work effectively within this system. I don't know what the answer is but don't think it's Ray Watson and the favored few. Shades of Ken Peterson's "Round Table," among other things.
