I attended the public meeting on Oct. 29 and found that the MAC has really been gutted by Supervisor Watson. Pastor Fred Rose and the late Lloyd Wiens worked hard for a long time to put together by-laws that included elections in the future and an allowance for a part-time secretary. Mr. Watson has done away with those and added a provision that the MAC may not contact any County agency or employee without his pre-approval!

In other words, this MAC is a powerless, toothless body. There is no voice of the community here.

What a betrayal of the people who worked so hard to bring our community some kind of a voice. This is only the appearance of something, with no substance. I think it should be scrapped.

Mr. Watson also emphasized countless times that the MAC is "advisory only", has no power and is not a political entity. He threatened to dissolve it should "political" ambitions develop. I think we can take him at his word.
