Wind causes a death in PMC

Press release from the Kern Fire Department:

PINE MOUNTAIN CLUB, CA - On Monday January 18th 2010 at approximately 9:30 A.M., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a tree that had fallen onto a structure in the 1600 block of Freeman Drive in Pine Mountain Club. Approximately 9 firefighters responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with an approximately 100 foot tall tree which fell during extremely strong wind conditions and came crashing into the roof of the house. The victim, a 21 year old male was asleep in his bed at the time of the accident and had suffered a massive crush injury from the fallen tree. The firefighter paramedic, inline with EMS protocols was able to determine cause of death at the scene.

Firefighters used chainsaws to relieve the weight of the tree from the structure and remove the victim to a place of safety.


At nearly 9:00 AM this morning, gusty winds blew down a tree on the 1600 block of Freeman Drive in Pine Mountain Club.  The tree crashed through a the home of Kip Storz and tragically killed Devin, his 21 year old son.   According to Sergeant Mark Brown of the Frazier Park Sheriff substation, Devin was on his bed when the tree dropped through the roof.
