A home in Pinon Pines caught fire last night at about 7:00.  The fire was caused by an aging fireplace with an ash trap when a brick under the house fell out of place and allowed heat inside the trap to escape and ignite the floor boards.

No one was injured.  Residents evacuated the home with their pets and one was able to keep the fire in check with a garden hose before the fire department arrived.  The house was saved with damage to the sub-flooring, one wall and some property.
