UPDATE - Some video of the incident is below.
Emergency dispatch was alerted to a serious car incident at 4:17 Tuesday afternoon. Sandy Kelly, a resident of Los Padres Estates, had run her Chevy Tahoe off the road near Lebec Community Church and up the embankment on the right hand side of the road. It is unclear why. Officers speculated about distraction inside the car or possibly a move to avoid a deer or other animal on the road.
CHP arrived at the scene between 5 and 7 minutes after the call and emergency crews worked for nearly 2 hours to free Mrs. Kelly from the car which had nearly flipped over completely and would have if it hadn't been kept in place by a young oak tree. She was conscious throughout the process. Once Kern Fire Department crew dismanteled nearly 50% of the car body and some interior pieces, Kelly was removed from the car. She had no skin injuries visible from a distance of 20 feet.
According to her son, she is stabilized at Kern Medical Center with leg and rib fractures.
