Element Power US, LLC, an American renewable energy company, just filed an application with the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning to build a state-of-the-art green energy farm in the area. The proposal is to develop a green energy facility capable of generating up-to-230 megawatts, enough clean energy to power more than 70,000 California homes. Element Power plans to design and build the project in an area of the Antelope Valley that boasts some of the strongest and most consistent on-peak winds in the entire state of California.
The facility, called the Wildflower Green Energy Farm, will be located on private property along West Lancaster Road near 170th Street West. Element Power secured a purchase agreement on just over 2,200 acres of former alfalfa and grazing land, where Healy Enterprises, the current property owner, operates the Healy Farms Horse Ranch.
According to Element Power, the Wildflower project will generate local property tax revenue, which will support local schools, hospitals, fire departments, and police forces in the A.V. At a time when unemployment in the Antelope Valley is 17%, the Wildflower facility is expected to create more than 300 jobs during construction. The project also will create permanent jobs to operate and maintain the facility.
The proposed facility will generate power using either wind or solar technology and that is yet to be determined. Element Power is meeting with community groups and soliciting input on the project. The company is sponsoring the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival August 20 - 29, and will have a booth where residents can stop by and ask company employees questions about the proposed project.
