Court postponed for Jim Schaffer

by Brian Bierman

Long-time resident of Frazier Park, Jim Schaffer, was in court on August 24 for three counts of "lewd or lacivious acts with a child under 14 years".  The result was a "motion to continue trial date".  The next hearing is scheduled for 10/9/2009.

We need to remember that every defendant is to be considered innocent until proven guilty.

No one here said he was guilty. The charges mentioned are what they are.

I'm sorry, I never meant to suggest that the Mountain Daily News portrayed this defendant as guilty. Not at all. There have been other, more sensationalistic accounts elsewhere. I meant that in general, this is the way we are supposed to view a criminal defendant.

I agree with Babs. There have ''been other, more sensationalistic accounts elsewhere." We felt those comments were very much out of line! Thanks Babs:~) No, I didn't get the impression that what was printed here was at all intended to be taken, "tried and found guilty" it is exactly as stated, thank you Editor.

I see "the beat goes on" elsewhere. Is it possible to just let this take it's due course and let it be until it is done?

Is this a ''witch hunt'' in modern times?
